India’s hopes up as 26/11 wanted Rana re-held in US

    • Tahawwur Hussain Rana, is likely to soon face extradition proceedings in the US based on a request from India.
    • He is one of the key accused in the 26/11Mumbai attacks.
    • He was released recently after testing positive for corona virus.
    • Rana has been re-arrested by US authorities based on a provisional request from the National Investigation Agency.

SC clears Puri Rath Yatra, but with no crowds, with distancing

    • The Supreme Court allowed Puri Rath Yatra by partially modifying its June18 order.
    • However, it said that no congregation will be allowed and steps will be taken to ensure that health and safety are not compromised.
    • By 18 June order, it had restrained temple authorities in Puri and elsewhere in Odisha from taking out RathYatras this year.

Delhi riots: HC grants bail to Safoora Zargar

    • The Delhi High Court granted bail to Jamia Coordination Committee Media Coordinator Safoora Zargar in a case related to the Delhi riots in February.
    • She was granted bail on “humanitarian grounds”.
    • She was arrested by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell on April 10 and is facing a UAPA case in connection with the communal violence in Northeast Delhi.
    • In her bail plea, she had submitted pregnancy as one of the grounds for relief.

SC clears CBSE decision to cancel class 10, 12 exams

    • The Supreme Court cleared the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) decision to cancel the remaining Board examinations for Class X and XII students, scheduled in July.
    • This was being done in view of the Covid-19 situation.
    • The apex court approved CBSE’s scheme to instead award students marks on the basis of the exams they have already taken.
    • According to the scheme, results of students who have completed examination in all subjects will be declared based on their performance.

Supreme Court stays FIRs against OpIndia editors, gives anchor protection from arrest

    • The Supreme Court stayed FIRs registered by West Bengal Police against editors of news portal OpIndia.
    • It gave protection from arrest to news anchor Amish Devgan, who faces multiple FIRs over remarks made during a TV show.

SC seeks UT reply on J&K bar chief’s plea over detention

    • The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Jammu and Kashmir administration on a plea by Mian Abdul Qayoom.
    • The plea challenged the High Court order upholding his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
    • He has contended that the high court order is ex facie unsustainable in law.
    • He argued that said order is premised on “stale, irrelevant, remote, vague, imprecise and deficient” grounds of detention.
    • He is the president of J&K Bar Association.
