Govt expands its SC team, led again by Venugopal as AG, Mehta as SG

    • The Centre reappointed Senior Advocate K.K. Venugopal as Attorney General for India for a period of one more year with effect from July 1.
    • Senior Advocate Tushar Mehta continues as Solicitor General of India for another three years or till further orders, whichever is earlier.

Apex court asks Centre to clarify on visa cancellation of foreign Tablighi members

    • The Supreme Court asked the Centre that whether the visas of various foreign Tablighi members were cancelled.
    • If cancellation had been done then whether orders were issued in each case.
    • The bench asked Centre to inform it whether there was only a general direction, or individual orders were issued in each case, intimating about blacklisting and cancellation of visa.

NCLT reserves order on SBI plea seeking recovery of Rs 1,200 crore from Anil Ambani

    • The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) reserved its order in a case where State Bank of India (SBI) has moved to recover Rs1,200 crore from RCom chairman Anil Ambani.
    • SBI has moved for recovery under the personal guarantee clause of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.
    • The Mumbai Bench of NCLT will now decide if an RP should be appointed to make a report on the basis of which the tribunal will take a call on admitting the petition of SBI against Ambani.

Will assess if holding CA exams is possible amid Covid surge: ICAI to SC

    • The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) told the Supreme Court that it will assess whether it was possible to hold the Chartered Accountancy exams as scheduled.
    • The exams were set to held between July 29 and August16, 2020.
    • The statement came in backdrop of the rising number of cases of Covid-19 across the country.

Will accept international tribunal ruling, Govt tells SC

    • The Government has decided to accept the International Arbitral Tribunal’s ruling in the case pertaining to the 2012 killing of two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast.
    • The fishermen were allegedly killed by the Italian marines on board oil tanker Enrica Lexie.
    • The Centre conveyed this to the Supreme Court, where proceedings in connection with the case are pending, and sought their disposal in view of the tribunal’s ruling.
